Ian Gracie, Supervising Art Director at Warner Bros. Studios
It has been my extreme pleasure to have known & worked with Roger Murray at various times over the past 10 years. Mainreactor & in particular Roger have always delivered to a brief with great ability & skill. His advanced knowledge of materials and techniques has allowed me to push the boundaries of design, this coupled with his wonderful organisational & communication skills has created a truly collaborative environment.
Ngila Dickson, ONZ, Costume Designer
I worked with Roger Murray on the film, ‘The Last Samurai’. It was a difficult ask as it was my intention to recreate Japanese armour of meticulous detail, yet flexible enough to be able to cope with heavy stunt action. When Roger took on the sculpture and moulding work for this we were all in uncharted territory. As a collaborator he was amazingly consistent and worked tirelessly with us – at times against formidable deadlines. Roger, was always calm and solution-oriented which made the relationship invaluable.
Whenever I consider work that requires model-making and sculpture workshops, Roger is the first person I think to call. I would unhesitatingly recommend Roger and his team to any fellow film-makers.
Paul D Austerberry, Production Designer
I would like to commend Roger Murray and his company for the outstanding work they did on the recent Columbia Pictures “30 Days of Night”, shot in Auckland in 2006. Roger and his team built a number of specialty props and industrial control panels for the film. He always brought clever and creative ways to achieve our designs and was a great collaborator with the art department throughout the project.
Ian Bracegirdle, Art Director, Te Wao Nui, Auckland Zoo, Director Motherworks Pty Ltd
Roger and his team at Main Reactor provided professional design and fabrication services for Auckland Zoo Te Wao Nui. The work of the team under Roger’s direction was exceptional. Their can-do attitude supported by a high level of skill and commitment made a valuable contribution to what is a world class educational and tourist destination.
Kerrie Brown, Set Decorator, Prince Caspian
I have worked with Roger on two tales from the Narnia Chronicles : The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe and the New Zealand section of Prince Caspian and have always found his approach to work to be professional and of the highest standard. He has great organisational skills and his knowledge of materials and techniques has allowed me the freedom to create the most detailed and complicated environments for a wide range of extremely unusual characters.
In my opinion Roger and his team would be a valuable asset to any production and I would not hesitate to use him on future productions anywhere in the world.
Robert Gillies, Production Designer.
I have known Roger Murray for over 12 years. We first met in 1994 when he began working in the Prop Shop as a Model Maker at the start of the American Television series, “Xena: Warrior Princess”. Since then I have watched Rogers’ career flourish and I have seen him develop not only his personal skills as a Model Maker and Prop Designer but also establish a Model shop that he manages with great ability and skill.
He is my Prop Designer of choice and I have employed him many times and on many different projects. The last one being the Walden/Disney feature film, “The Bridge to Terabithia”. As always it was a pleasure to work with Roger and to have his expertise, reliability and high calibre of workmanship on the team.
