We believe the most important aspect of prop-making is achieving authenticity. We undertake extensive research to gain accuracy for productions set in historical periods. From armour and weapons through to world building, we focus on the detail to bring every script to life, and ensure the audience suspends their disbelief for the entirety of a film.

Prosthetic make-up (also known as special make-up effects and FX prosthesis) is the process of using prosthetic sculpting, moulding and casting techniques to create advanced cosmetic effects.
We started working in this area in 2006 and today, prosthetics makes up a huge part of the work we do. After concept sign off, we take moulds of an actor’s face or body parts to create silicon or latex components. From this point we can sculpt the prosthetic to achieve a multitude of effects such as deep wounds, scary monster faces, dead bodies and more.
Our talented technicians sculpt, spray and paint effects, paying careful attention to how the prosthetic will fit the actor and how they will be able to move. We provide the make-up department with the finished effect so they can apply to the actor.
Design underpins all the elements of our work. Roger Murray is the mastermind behind the creatures, worlds and props that are crafted at Main Reactor, and his imagination literally knows no bounds.
We have a library of scars, cuts and bruises that are available for purchase. These are available in gelatine or silicone (depending on your requirements). These cuts and scars have been used on productions like Spartacus, Mr Pip, The Blue Rose and Go Girls.
Scar boards include: Cuts and slashes, boils and scars, stab wounds, scabs, veins, rotting flesh, grazes, healed wounds, open cuts, whip cuts, burns and blisters.
